What's included in your Beneden Healthcare

Your Benenden Healthcare gives you access to a wide range of support for both your physical and mental wellbeing—but many of the services available often go underused or overlooked. This is a quick reminder of what’s included and how it can help when you need it.

Fast access to everyday healthcare

One of the most useful parts of your membership is quick access to support when you need it:

  • 24/7 GP helpline: speak to a UK-based GP by phone or video, day or night, without waiting for an appointment.
  • Private prescriptions: if appropriate, a GP can issue a prescription for you to collect or have delivered (charges apply).
  • 24/7 mental health helpline: immediate support for things like stress, anxiety, bereavement, or just a difficult patch.

This is there for those moments where you just need quick advice or a bit of reassurance, and it's available around the clock, so you don't have to wait until Monday morning.

Support beyond the basics

If something more serious comes up, there's additional support available:

  • Medical diagnostics: if you've been referred by the NHS and face a wait, you may be able to access private tests or consultations faster (up to a set limit).
  • Surgical treatment: access to selected procedures when NHS waiting times are longer than expected.
  • Physiotherapy: help recovering from injuries with guided exercises or treatment sessions.

These services are designed to help you get answers and treatment more quickly when delays matter. That said, it's worth checking your eligibility for each service before you need it, some have specific criteria or limits that are good to know about in advance.

Mental health and wellbeing support

Your membership also puts a strong focus on mental wellbeing:

  • Structured mental health support: short-term counselling or guided self-help programmes if you need more than initial advice.
  • Wellbeing Hub: access to fitness content, nutrition advice, and mental wellbeing resources through the app.

It's not just about reacting to problems, it's about helping you stay well day to day. A lot of people don't realise how much is available here until they take a proper look.

Additional advice services

There are also specialist services that people often overlook:

  • Adult care advice: guidance on arranging care for yourself or family members.
  • Neurodiversity and disability advice: support and signposting for a range of needs.
  • Cancer support service: practical and emotional support if you or a loved one are affected.

These are there to help you handle more complex situations, not just medical treatment. They're also there for the people around you, which is something worth keeping in mind.

Extras you can take advantage of

Beyond healthcare, your membership also includes:

  • Discounts on shopping, gyms, travel, and more
  • Access to health tools and resources via the app
  • Optional additional products like health assessments or cash plans

These are designed to support your overall wellbeing and save you money along the way, so it's worth having a browse to see what's relevant to you.

A quick note on how it works

Benenden Healthcare is designed to complement the NHS, not replace it. It focuses on everyday health needs, faster access where possible, and short-term support, rather than long-term or emergency care. That's an important distinction, so make sure you're clear on what falls within scope before you need to use it.

Make the most of it

If you haven't already, it's worth downloading the Benenden Health app. It's the easiest way to book appointments, access services, and explore everything available to you.

Most people only think about healthcare when something goes wrong. But there's a lot here you can use proactively, whether that's speaking to a GP, improving your fitness, or getting support when life feels a bit heavy.

If you'd like to know more about any of the services mentioned here, or you're not sure what you're entitled to, just get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
